Fouesnant Wool Sweater



This sweater design dates from the 1700s and is known as a “chandail,” which is a contraction of the term “marchands d’ails” – the name for the garlic merchants from Brittany that would sail to England wearing this as protection from the elements. 200 years later it became part of the official uniform of submarine officers in the French Navy and has remained standard habit for French seamen everywhere.

Company Background
